Queen Anne Has a New Candy Bar

Queen Anne shop Charley and May is a reliable source for cute totes, T-shirts, or bookends shaped like balloon animals. Now owner Lauren Formicola has dedicated a corner of her shop to locally made candy, as reported on Queen Anne View.

Right now her rotating showcase includes lollipops from This Charming Candy in Maple Leaf, toffee and caramels from Bothell-based Try My Toffee, and truffles from Lesley’s Gourmet, a recommendation from Formicola’s friend and grilled-cheese goddess Danielle Custer.

Large apothecary-type jars are also filled with classics like Sixlets, in the shop’s signature orange and blue. A selection of buckets, clear takeout-style boxes, and other quaint little vessels await customer fillups; local company Brush and Mallet did the packaging. So far the shop’s top sellers are miniature gummy fried eggs and those Sixlets and “sushi.” In Formicola’s world, “sushi” is the term for the candy most of us know as Swedish fish. Since the shop opened, she has been offering these as treats for visitors.

Expect quite a display of Halloween candy in the coming weeks. For adults who prefer indulgences of the alchoholic sort, another section of the shop is dedicated to bitters, rock sugar-coated swizzle sticks, and other cocktail-related items.
