Duff, Brandi Carlile, Mike McCready to Play Hendrix Tribute Show

The EMP has a new Jimi Hendrix exhibit! What will they think of next? Maybe they’ll do one on Bob Dylan or Nirvana.

All kidding aside, Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London focuses on the legendary guitarist’s time across the pond in 1966 and ’67. The exhibit features more than 100 items—costumes, instruments, and photographs from EMP’s extensive collection—plus new artifacts from the estate of Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell that help illustrate how the Brits received Seattle’s favorite shredding son. To kick off the exhibit’s grand opening and celebrate what would have been Hendrix’s 70th birthday, EMP will hold Hear My Train a Comin’: The Concert on Saturday, November 17 in the Sky Church.

The night’s de facto guest of honor is bassist Billy Cox, the lone surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys. He’ll be joined by a slew artists (mostly locals) including Brandi Carlile, Duff McKagan, Mike McCready, Brad Whitford (Aerosmith), Ernie Isley (Isley Brothers), and more. It’ll be one big Hendrix jam fest. Think there might be some decent guitar playing? I’m going to go out on a limb and say yes.

Lest you think the evening doesn’t offer enough Hendrix immersion, the concert ticket includes admission to the Hear My Train a Comin’ exhibit. ‘Scuse me while I kiss the Sky (Church).
