Hi Karin,
I appreciate your comment, and your concern. The majority of the fur used in this spread is recycled or reclaimed fur. After much consideration, I really believe that the best use of vintage furs is re-use. To love and appreciate the warmth and beauty seems better, to me, than to banish it. I learned so much from Carol McClellan, the local artist who remade those coats. For example, the fur industry is doing far more responsible work these days with catching practices and with whole-animal practices. They are raising animals that will be used for meat, for leather, and for fur so that populations are not destroyed and there is no waste. I did a lot of research for this feature; because there is so much fur in national magazines and on the runways, I wanted to show some responsible alternatives, and I wanted to educate myself as to the current trends and practices.
I am appalled at all of the fur featured. What is wrong with you Seattle Met? Please use only cruelty free products. There is no excuse for this. You live in an enlightened area of the world. There is no shortage of information about the cruelty involved in the fur industry. You should be ashamed of yourselves. If you are too ignorant to know about the fur industry, educate yourself.
