Your First Chance to Watch the Seattle Mist Play
Hey, everybody — after two days of sunshine, the rain came back! And it’s just in time for the first — and only — day of mini-camp for our very own Lingerie Football League squad, the Seattle Mist, which kicks off its inaugural season this September. It’s almost like they planned it that way! (You know, because their name is the Mist? C’mon, work with me here …)
Actually, the weather is irrelevant. The 12 tanned and toned gridiron gals who promise to play their four-game season in nothing more than skivvies (and shoulder pads, of course) will run "various offensive, special teams and defensive football drills" today inside the ShoWare Center in Kent. (Runny eyeliner and flat hair would ruin the mood, obviously.)
Deadlines will prevent Left Field from attending, and it’s a shame, because I really would have liked to ask the team’s Shannon Sypher, who told me in February that she’d be playing wide receiver, why the press release announcing today’s event says she’s now a linebacker. Switching from offense to defense can be tricky, but I’ll only be left to wonder how she was able to manage the transition.
The biggest question on the minds of skittish Seattle sports fans who have already had their hearts broken by one team that skipped town, though, might be whether they have to worry about the Mist moving on to greener pastures before the season even starts, like the LFL’s Atlanta Steam just did. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, screw pro sports.
