City Council Member Owns Ritzy Bellevue Condo

By Erica C. Barnett June 9, 2010

City Council member Bruce Harrell and his wife Joanne own in a townhouse in the Washington Square condo towers in downtown Bellevue. Harrell was not available to tell PubliCola how he splits his time between the two residences, and a staffer said Harrell lives in Seattle.

The spacious 2,250-square-foot townhouse, which includes two bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, a patio, a balcony, and a two-car garage, lists at a price between $1.3 and $2.4 million, and another, larger townhouse in the building recently sold for $1.6 million.

Harrell's house in Seattle was appraised in 2009 at $1.1 million. Harrell is an attorney; his wife is a manager at Microsoft and a member of the UW Board of Regents.

The city charter requires candidates for local office to be registered to vote in Seattle when they file, but is silent on the question of residency and owning residential property in other cities.
