Tyler Moritz Lands at Zig Zag Cafe

But really, says the owner, it's not a big deal.

The real action remains behind the bar.

I’ve heard this same question perhaps a dozen times in the past week, so here you go: After parting ways from his former restaurant, La Bête, in June, Tyler Moritz is in the kitchen over at Zig Zag Cafe. But owner Ben Dougherty is quick to stress that this isn’t a big deal.

Dougherty bought out longtime partner Kacy Fitch in early July, and said Moritz is a friend of his and was looking for a place to land. So don’t expect menu changes, or really changes of any other sort. The goal, says Dougherty, is for nobody to notice anything different about the bar that draws crowds of visitors and regulars alike.

Okay, one thing is different. Since Murray Stenson left last May, Zig Zag is slightly calmer, though in my experience the change is a pleasant shift from Murray-gawkers to regulars who come in for the hospitality evinced by bartenders like Erik Hakkinen, Ben Perri, and Ricardo Hoffman, who will remember your face and your name and have a deft touch with the personalized libations. You know, the very qualities that won the bar acclaim to begin with.
