Bluebird Ice Creamery Is Now a Brewery, Too

The Greenwood location will pour housemade brews, including snickerdoodle soda and Theo chocolate milk stout.

The Bluebird Microcreamery in Greenwood is making its long-promised transition to a nanobrewery this Thursday, November 15. Bluebird owner Josh Kessler Reynolds and Elysian’s Steve Luke launched the brewing earlier this year, and since then Tom Schmidlin, a serious longtime homebrewer has stepped in to man the two-barrel system. A few people have been able to taste their creations at neighborhood festivals in recent weeks, but Thursday the full array of ales (both alcoholic and non) make their debut.

Three taps dispense sodas—root beer, cream soda, and a snickerdoodle version are all begging to be used for floats. Grownup beverages include a milk stout made with Theo chocolate and a coffee porter made in partnership with the neighboring Caffe Vita. The milk stout, by the way, placed third at the Phinney Neighborhood Association Winter Beer Taste this past weekend. Other taps include a rotating guest beer and a “guest ginger beer.” Hmmm….who could that be?

Bluebird says the brews will make their way to the Capitol Hill shop in a few weeks, hitting the Fremont location down the road.

A grand opening party is happening Thursday night. All eight taps will be flowing and happy hour runs 5 to 7. Also on the agenda: raffles, brewery tours, growler fills and, of course, ice cream.
