The Future of Le Gourmand: Brimmer and Heeltap
The address that spent three decades as a temple of French cuisine is hopping the pond, becoming part bistro, part English-style pub. We can’t wait to see Mike Whisenhunt, the powerhouse kitchen lieutenant at Revel and Joule, put his own spin on pubby European fare. The name, brainchild of partner Jen Doak, combines the British drinking terms for a perfectly full pint glass and that last tiny swallow of booze that you can’t seem to get out of your glass. brimmerandheeltap.blogspot.com

Pioneer Square Gets a Haus of Beer and Brats
After stumbling upon an inviting empty restaurant space at 209 First Avenue South, Brendan McGill of Hitchcock restaurant on Bainbridge did the only logical thing—partnered with one of his employees, Lex Petras, to open a German-style beer hall. Altstadt will serve beer aplenty, plus soft pretzels, sausages, and other Germanic drinking fare made with Hitchcockian devotion to all things housemade. Seahawks and Sounders fans will provide a pregame chorus of clanking steins. altstadtseattle.com

Cupcake Royale’s Quest for Total World Domination
Wait, how is it the cheeky cupcake shop hasn’t already opened a Queen Anne location? The prominent space at 1935 Queen Anne Ave North will cater to kids with a sprinkle bar where you can top your own cupcakes (plus, you know, copious amounts of sugar in general). Adults can get cold-brewed Stumptown on tap and a brand-new array of scones, biscuits, and other breakfast pastries. cupcakeroyale.com

The Baltic Room Pours Shots on Draft
This could be trouble—the Capitol Hill bar has installed what it says is the West Coast’s largest setup of shots dispensed by tap. Hence patrons have quick-and-easy access to slugs of Jameson, cinnamon Beam, and even whipped-cream vodka…or specialty shots of spiked punch. Morning-after aspirin packets not included. balticroom.com
