Oh Hey, a Few New Brunch Destinations

Hot chicken and waffles. Huevos rancheros and literature. Blackberry-mango French toast and “pogmosas.”

While the week has only just begun, you may already be thinking about weekend brunch. We feel you on that. Let’s go over a few new options, shall we?

Sisters and Brothers

Sample the south by way of Nashville hot chicken at this Georgetown restaurant and bar. Now, from 11 to 2 on weekends, said hot chicken comes with buttermilk waffles, whiskey honey butter, and syrup. Also for your brunching consideration: heirloom grits from Anson Mills served with smoked ham hock, poached egg, and red eye gravy, or try a coffee-rubbed brisket with fried egg, melted oniones, and white gravy.

No Bones Beach Club

Ballard’s first vegan tiki bar and erstwhile food truck, does a pretty mean plant-based brunch. From 11 to 2, brunch on bagels: toasted everything bagel with smoked carrot “lox” and fixings, or try one with scrambled tofu, field roast sausage, chipotle mayo, and hash browns. For something sweeter there’s blackberry mango–stuffed French toast with jalapeño syrup and coconut whip. Drink wise think tiki: pogmosas made of sparkling wine and passionfruit/orange/guava juice, or perhaps go for the Jungle Bird, made with Campari, dark rum, and pineapple.

Raconteur

This amalgam of bookstore plus cafe plus restaurant and bar opened last month in Seward Park. Raconteur does weekday breakfast, but in addition to its quotidian offering of scrambles and waffles, weekend brunch from 8 to 3 adds a bit more. Look for things like huevos rancheros or hearty bowl of spiced green lentils with avocado, arugula, cilantro pesto, and eggs. And behind the white-tiled espresso counter: nitro cold brew on tap.
