After partnering with exciting North Carolina–based roaster Counter Culture this summer, Cherry Street plans to keep the hot streak alive by launching an expanded coffee shop concept in Occidental Park.

Cherry Street Public House, opening in the new Weyerhaeuser Building, will showcase a number of firsts for the family-owned mainstay. A new coffee menu expands on Cherry Street’s current drip and espresso setup with a rotating menu of single-origin offerings from Counter Culture and brew-by-the-cup options. “The idea is to have it be more Third Wave but still fast-paced,” says Laila Wilbur, director of coffee for Cherry Street. The Public House will also feature cold brew, iced tea, and kombucha on tap. Plus beer and wine, this being a public house.

But that’s just the beverages. An “Australian-style” breakfast menu will include bites like avocado toast and poached eggs. For lunch, look for upgrades to Cherry Street’s current sandwiches. Wilbur is most excited about the Persian food, like “some great stews for lunch and dinner options,” a longtime dream of her her Iranian-born father who opened their first shops.

The space itself will feel just as much a coffee shop as it does a restaurant, says Wilbur, with counter service and bar seating up front and separate dining area—think Mr. West or Oddfellows—all enveloped in the Weyerhaeuser Building’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

While an official date has not been set, Cherry Street Public House plans to open in January.
