Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart kick off SIFF 2016 in Woody Allen’s Café Society.

Expect love and awkward laughs to be in the air on May 19 at McCaw Hall as SIFF 2016 gets underway with the American premier of Woody Allen’s latest romantic comedy, Café Society. Adding a dash of local connection, the film comes our way via Amazon Studios. Jesse Eisenberg (the only natural and logical nebbish stand-in now that the director is finally too old to play the Woody roles) stars as James, young man that moves to Los Angeles during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He’s taken in my his big shot uncle Aaron (Steve Carell), and soon falls for Aaron’s assistant, Theresa (Kristen Stewart). So maybe think of it as Woody Allen’s 1930s Adventureland?

Tickets for Café Society are on sale now at SIFF.net, and range from $50 seats to the $250 red carpet experience.

SIFF 2016 looks to be cinematic coming out party for Amazon Studios. Though the studio broke into the feature film business last year by releasing the Spike Lee film Chi-Raq, the company has been mainly known for Amazon Video TV productions (Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, The Man in the High Castle, etc.). In addition to Café Society, the SIFF lineup includes six other Amazon Studios titles: Wiener-Dog, Gleason, Author: The JT LeRoy Story, Love and Friendship, Complete Unknown, and The Dressmaker.

The full SIFF 2016 lineup will be announced May 4. Single tickets for all other films will go on sale May 5.
