Sleater-Kinney Returns and Neutral Milk Hotel Says Goodbye

Words and guitar / I want it...

Sleater-Kinney returns. Long live Sleater-Kinney.

Sleater-Kinney is back. Everybody (appropriately) freak out. In January, the Olympia-formed rock trio returns to the scene with its first new album in 10 years, No Cities to Love (Sub Pop). Before disbanding in 2006, the group made wonderfully riotous noise that touched on both indie and punk sensibilities, turning out classic records like Dig Me Out. (To be perfectly honest, I few years ago I got pretty bummed out when I realized more people know guitarist Carrie Brownstein from her starring role on Portlandia than from her time with Sleater-Kinney.) After initially announcing a batch of tour dates that improbably didn’t include Seattle, Sleater-Kinney has now booked two nights at the Showbox on May 8 and 9. Don’t miss it.

Tickets for Sleater-Kinney’s two concerts at the Showbox go on sale this Friday, December 12 at noon via Showboxpresents.com.

UPDATED After the first two concerts sold out almost immediately, Sleater-Kinney has added a third show at the Showbox on May 7. Tickets go on sale this Thursday, December 18 at noon.

After becoming a legendary indie rock act after its initial demise via the seminal album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Neutral Milk Hotel reunited in 2013 and has been touring its emotionally-charged weird folk roadshow ever since. But all good things must come to an end. Neutral Milk Hotel has announced the final leg of its reunion tour, including a date at the Paramount Theatre on June 4. The band has stated that this will be its “last tour for the foreseeable future.” Considering the previous hiatus lasted 15 years, this could potentially be fans’ final chance to enjoy the glorious communal experience of Neutral Milk Hotel live.

Tickets for Neutral Milk Hotel at the Paramount Theatre go on sale this Friday, December 12 at noon via STGpresents.org. The floor for the show will be general admission, standing room only.

June 4, Paramount Theatre, $35–$38
