Monday Morning Pick-Me-Up: Stephen Colbert and Steve Buscemi Redo ‘Fargo’

Plus, Michael Stipe sings Bowie, 'The Powerpuff Girls,' and cat memes.

FARGO REDUX

Political fun fact: John Kasich hates the Coen film Fargo. Like he really hates it. Like he tried to mount a one-man campaign to get Blockbuster to remove the movie from its shelves in the ’90s. Like he actually devoted pages in his book to telling the story of his Fargo hate. To make the most of that absurd slice of reality on last Friday’s The Late Show, Fargo‘s Steve Buscemi (playing Kasich) and Stephen Colbert hilariously reenacted what Kasich’s rageful video return might have looked like. Spoiler alert: Much like in the film, a wood chipper may play a prominent role.

I NEVER LOST CONTROL

Michael Stipe has been largely M.I.A. from the performance world since R.E.M.’s 2011 breakup. But if there’s one man that could wrest him from his musical hermitry, it’s David Bowie. In anticipation of last weekend’s all-star Bowie tribute show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Stipe stopped by The Tonight Show to perform the Bowie classic “The Man Who Sold the World.” In an even more stripped down version than Nirvana’s famed MTV Unplugged cover, he delivered a hauntingly minimal rendition of the tune with only solo piano accompaniment.

FIGHTING CRIME, TRYING TO SAVE THE WORLD…

Sugar, spice, everything nice… and Chemical X: these are the ingredients that make up the Powerpuff Girls. But perhaps your own mix is a bit different. To hype the revival of the popular animated series (you may have heard that Seattle’s own Tacocat provides the new theme song)—which premieres tonight at 6—Cartoon Network created Powerpuff Yourself, a character creation site that lets you make a version of you in the signature Powerpuff Girls animation style. It even lets you create your own avatar gif. Get to it, because you never know when Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup might need some help against Mojo Jojo.

I CA-T-N’T BELIEVE IT

There are too many memes on the Internet. There are too many cats on the Internet. Still, sometimes sometimes the meme gods bless us with something mind-blowing. And needless to say, the feline in this video/gif that gained online traction last week certainly had its mind blown. If we could all feel like this cat does once a week, the world would be a better place.
