Monday Morning Pick-Me-Up: Grammys, Chastity Belt, and Suh on the Seahawks?

Featuring additional musical performances by Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and Arcade Fire's Will Butler.

Award Show Music Well last night’s Grammys were sure dull. Nothing like a taped delayed West Coast broadcast to prove that you’re hip and with it, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. (Quick recap of the night: Sam Smith won a lot and Beck took home Album of the Year for the beautiful and thoroughly boring Morning Phase.) In more exciting award show music news, it was announced that the epically snubbed The Lego Movie (in a just world it’s not only up for Best Animated Feature, but also Best Picture) will get a moment in the spotlight at this month’s Academy Awards when Tegan and Sara and the Lonely Island perform the movie’s overpoweringly catchy Oscar nominated song “Everything Is Awesome.” It’s sure to be the best musical performance on the telecast since…

Boom-er Suh-ner? Is the Legion of Boom about to become even more terrifying for opposing offenses? According to reports, free agent All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has expressed interest in joining the Seahawks. The Northwest native from Portland would be a fearsome addition, but it’s probably a pipe dream considering his high price tag and the Seahawks’ salary cap situation (Russell Wilson is still waiting to get his big contract). That said, it’s hard to resist to pull of consolidating all of the players the NFL disciplinary office hates (for non-criminal reasons) onto a single team.

Watch + Listen Capitol Hill beware: Chastity Belt is back. The local rock quartet makes its Hardly Art on March 24 with Time to Go Home, another collections of mid-tempo songs wryly reveling in young nights gone horribly wrong (or, at the very least, horribly trite). In the new video for “Time to Go Home,” the women get into more drunkenly debauched antics including dancing with shirtless dudes in Macklemore masks (Masklemores?).

Laugh Who knew Sir Mix-a-Lot was pushing feminist ideals with the intro to “Baby Got Back”?

Listen + Watch While he’s buried on the Sasquatch! Festival bill, we can’t wait to see Will Butler. The Arcade Fire keyboardist (and brother of frontman Win) releases his solo debut Policy via Merge Records on March 10. We’ve had the chance to hear the album and it’s absolutely killer (substantially better than the last Arcade Fire record, Reflektor). Bulter’s video for the single “Anna” should help you get excited (and get dancing) too.
