Kidd Pivot Reinvents The Tempest at On the Boards

Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite and her troupe Kidd Pivot reinvent Shakespeare’s The Tempest with faceless dancers and film.

“Be not afeard,” wrote William Shakespeare. “The isle is full of noises.” In The Tempest Replica, a reinvention of Shakespeare’s play by Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite and her troupe Kidd Pivot, the isle is more a metaphor for captivity and desire, where faceless dancers help tell the story. Pite’s breathtaking work is a perfect storm of high drama, striking visuals, classical precision, and modern dance risks. Be not afeard, indeed.
