Barsuk Records’ 15th Anniversary Concert Series

The Long Winters, Nada Surf, and more celebrate the Seattle label with four nights of shows.

Seattle’s other hugely influential label is having a birthday party too. Over 15 years Barsuk Records has provided a home to some of Seattle’s best indie rock and singer-songwriter albums and helped shape the modern perception of indie rock. In many ways, Barsuk was to the indie rock boom of the early 2000s what Sub Pop was to the grunge movement of the ’90s. Most notably, the label helped launch Death Cab for Cutie and released the band’s breakthough record Transatlanticism (which the band will play in its entirety at Bumbershoot 2013).

To celebrate 15 years of existence, Barsuk is putting on four nights of shows November 7–10 featuring some of the label’s best current and former acts. The festivities kick off with Nada Surf and Mates of State at Showbox at the Market. That’s followed by the reclusive the Long Winters, with opening sets by David Bazan and Chris Walla, at the Neptune Theatre. A collection of the more modern Barsuk class, including Menomena and Maps and Atlases, play the next evening at Neumos. The final night is a singer-songwriter showcase as Jesse Skyes and the Sweet Hereafter is joined by Rocky Vololato and Laura Gibson at the Tractor Tavern.

Individual for the concerts are on sale now for $15 through Barsuk.com. Fans can also save on ticket fees by purchasing a four night pass for $60.

We’ve got much more coverage on Barsuk’s 15th Anniversary as part of our Fall Arts Preview in the upcoming September issue of Seattle Met, so pick it up when it hits newsstands.
