Over the weekend, I stopped into University Village and marveled at the gleaming Shake Shack—all tricked out with plants and patio umbrellas and seemingly ready to go—and wondered when it was going to open. Mystery solved by a press release this morning: Shake Shack opens its third Washington location today, September 17, at 11am.
This Shake Shack will be open daily 11–8 and has outdoor seating on a sizable patio, plus dine-in. Right now the kitchen is putting out a somewhat limited menu, but it does include a seasonal pumpkin shake, some hot and spicy cheese fries, and of course the signature lineup of Shack burgers, shakes, and crinkle-cut fries. Plus, you guessed it, a ton of Covid-19 safety protocols.
Like so many other restaurants, the New York–based burger phenom has been amping up its digital order and low-contact pickup situation. The U Village location has mobile ordering and a walkup window, as part of a new program the chain calls Shack Track. All these various ordering options aside, the crowds over these first few days are likely to be bananas.
