Yes, Sutra Closed—But Harvest Beat Has Opened

That sound you hear? Collective sigh of relief from vegans across the region.

Looks like a Sutra dish, no?

Colin Patterson, who created exquisite vegan feasts in his tiny Wallingford house restaurant Sutra, was perhaps the most underheralded great chef in Seattle. Until he became the most underheralded great chef formerly in Seattle, having gotten his space sold out from under him, then taking off with his wife and business partner Amber Tande to open a new restaurant in Leavenworth. Look forward to Mana this spring.

Two and a half weeks ago Patterson’s and Tande’s former partners in Sutra, Jan and Aaron Geibel, quietly opened Harvest Beat in larger quarters just a block or so down the street from the old Sutra in Wallingford. Their aim was to fulfill the same culinary mission: five-course pris-fixe vegan dinners, locally sourced, rigorously seasonal, five nights a week.

They have many of the same staff and one of the same chefs, Joe Ianelli, who sees lunch service, food retail, cooking classes, and maybe even brunch launching over the next few months. Stay tuned.
