We’re Hiring!

SagaCity Media is seeking smart, energetic, talented people to fill the art and editorial intern positions below.

Art Interns

Seattle Met is seeking a smart and creative design intern to help with the production of seattlemet.com and our quarterly print magazine. We are currently hiring for Winter/Spring (January–June) 2023. This paid position requires between 15–20 hours per week in 4- to 5-hour stints. The duration of this internship is generally six months. We are flexible with student schedules during the academic year, and the internship can be used to fulfill school credit. Remote, in-office, and hybrid work are possible.

We are looking for visual storytellers with an understanding of typography, color theory, and a passion for impactful design. Conceptual thinkers who bring humor and an appropriate level of irreverence to their work will do well here.

Depending on skill level, art intern opportunities may include page design and layout, photo research, spot illustration, photography and photo adjustment, participating in team brainstorming meetings, and assisting with some administrative tasks.

When interns have proved successful on smaller art assignments, they will have the opportunity to contribute to, or design projects for publication online and/or in print. We want our interns to walk away with strong clips that they have earned.

Responsibilities
  • Design for website and print publication
  • Assist art directors with photo research and shoot production
  • Uploading art to website and proofing print pages
  • Creating original photography and/or illustration (collage or digital illustration skills are a plus)
Qualifications
  • Background in graphic design, photography, or illustration
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OS X
  • Ability to jump between often disparate tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Deadline oriented
  • Independent and self-motivated
Compensation

$17.27 per hour and can be used to fulfill school credit.

How to Apply

We accept applications on a rolling basis for all terms (winter, spring, summer, fall). Applications will be accepted until the spot is filled.

Email the following: a cover letter that indicates your desired term or start date (for example, “fall” or “September 22”), a resume, three references, and links or pdfs of design samples (print layout, website design, photo-illustration, photography, illustration). Feel free to include links to any video or motion graphic reels, if applicable, in your application, which should be sent to:

Editorial Interns

Seattle Met is seeking smart and resourceful interns for our editorial department, located in Seattle, Washington. We are now accepting applications for our winter internships in all beats, or areas of concentration: News, Food and Drink, the Arts, Style, Wellness, and Travel.

We’re seeking witty writers who shudder at fluffy press release language and bring verve and journalistic rigor to a story about a city council race, or a list of new happy hours. Interns who enjoy finding levity in all things wonky, or tackling seemingly lighthearted topics with intelligence and humor will do especially well here. Yes, these internships involve a lot of fact-checking, but our editors are eager to help talented young writers hone their craft (and get some great clips).

Our editorial interns have gone on to work for Vanity Fair, The New YorkerPlayboy, Eater Seattle, Chef Steps, Time, The Nation, ViceCrosscut, Seattle Weekly, The Seattle Times, Bloomberg, and The Stranger. Past interns have also joined Seattle Met and other publications under SagaCity Media.

The internship is paid and lasts six months; we ask for a commitment of 20 hours a week with flexible scheduling.

  • Assist editors with research and reporting
  • Fact-check and proofread
  • Transcribe interviews
