Early April was cool and wet—not ideal for summery photos. Chona Kasinger nailed the vision of books basking on a beach ("10 PNW Books to Bring to the Beach"), thanks to a bag of sand in her Capitol Hill apartment—her dog Brooklyn even tried to make a cameo. After abandoning plans to shoot boating gear on a sunny dock, Tegra Stone Nuess and I commandeered a captain’s wheel at Captain’s Nautical Supplies in Ballard ("6 Ways to Get the Nautical Look in Seattle"). Justin Gollmer’s style shoot ("Andreya Taylor Is Seattle's Style Unicorn") played out in our office lobby—to the quiet dismay of nearby coworkers—and Rihana Jones’s hand-painted backdrop summoned Fourth of July for Quote Unquote ("Citizen University Founder Eric Liu Preaches the Good Word of Civic Engagement"). May our actual summer be as pleasant as the one we generated.
