The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses
The eight-bit soundtrack to the original Legend of Zelda is one of the most iconic pieces of music in video game history. Thirty years and dozens games later, the Zelda franchise remains among Nintendo’s most beloved. And the thoughtful use of music—from the lo-fi 1987 version to the cinematic scores in newer installments—is an invaluable and influential contribution to the industry. In Symphony of the Goddesses, Zelda receives a soaring orchestral survey of the series’s music alongside gameplay footage from the medieval-inspired mythical land of Hyrule. Benaroya Hall, $45–$105

Coldplay
Chris Martin and company rode multiple musical waves leading into their new world tour. The guitar-driven pop anthems in their 2000 debut Parachutes, melancholy ambience of Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and more a recent collaboration with current It group The Chainsmokers all ensure Coldplay remains in the conversation. Centurylink Field, $25–$235

Sept 22–Mar 25
Humaira Abid: Searching for Home
The Seattle-based Pakistani’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States features woodwork and miniature paintings that dive into the plight of women refugees fleeing to the Northwest and around the world. This striking iconography—like sculpted luggage smudged in blood, a child’s shoes behind barbed wire—feel particularly timely during an age of heated debate over immigration. Bellevue Art Museum, $12

Fremont Oktoberfest 2017

We have officially entered Oktoberfest season, and Fremont’s throwing one of the biggest, sudsiest parties in the state with a three-day event of beer, live music, and bratwursts. You can skip the gym thanks to stein hoisting competitions on Friday and Saturday, or you can don traditional German garb and yodel in the Miss Buxom Contest. The fest will have everything from microbrews to traditional German bier, over 80 types altogether. Friday and Saturday are strictly 21-plus, but Sunday is a kid’s bonanza with pumpkin decorating, root beer tasting, and a zucchini race track. (Psst: There are even more Oktoberfest events happening around the city. Here's our roundup.) Phinney Ave and 35th St in Fremont,  $20–$50

Pacific Northwest Ballet's 45th season kicks off with a celebration of a different milestone: the 50th anniversary of Jewels, George Balanchine's full-length ballet. The new production gets a full costume and scenic makeover from renowned set designer Jerome Kaplan. The three parts—Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds—incorporate a little bit of Western glitz and some old world opulence, set to the music of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. McCaw Hall, $30–$235

Sea Otter Awareness Weekend
Seals might be the dogs of the ocean, but sea otters are definitely the rambunctious puppies. For two days, the Seattle Aquarium hosts an educational sea otter variety show of sorts,  with diver shows, some real face-time with the furry little faces, educational talks filled with otter facts, story time, and, surprise, happenings at the octopus exhibit.  Seattle Aquarium, $27.95
