Openings

Din Tai Fung
At long last the Taiwanese giant of hand formed xiao long bao has opened its third Seattle area location inside Pacific Place downtown. And now we await the forthcoming Tukwila restaurant...

Tu Cantinas
Softly yet surely, this Mexican cantina beside Brass Tacks—and of the same owner—is open; tequila and tacos await.

The Runaway
First it was Moe’s Mo’Roc’N Cafe then Moe Bar, but now the space channels the Joan Jett–fronted band with booze created by the venerable bartender Veronika Groth. Eater Seattle has the details.

Capitol Lounge
Capitol Hill Blog reports that this lounge, formerly Lobby Bar, on East Pike softly opened last week. Within: black leather seats, TVs, and weekly dance parties.

The Dane
Per Eater Seattle, Crown Hill has a new “nearly all-day” cafe, serving coffee and tea, sandwiches and snacks, plus beer—and they’re not shy about it: 35 taps with brews from the likes of Mollusk, Fremont Brewing, and Georgetown Brewing.

Changeups

Sunset Fried Chicken Sandwiches
Monica Dimas’s fried chicken sandwiches are once again exclusive to Seattle. She’s closing her counter at the Rachel’s Ginger Beer in Portland’s Hawthorne district in about six weeks, and working on some new projects in lieu of her original plan to join the RGB in University Village. Fans of wedge salads and General Tso tacos, fear not—the original Sunset Fried Chicken Sandwiches inside RGB 12th Avenue remains unchanged.

Closings

Tini Bigs and Hula Hula
These sibling spots on Queen Anne will have a last last call on March 18, though Hula Hula’s tiki-themed cocktails and karaoke will live on in its new Capitol Hill locale.

Coming Soon

Heavy Restaurant Group
The folks behind Barrio and Meet the Moon, among others, will open a new casual Mexican spot across from Gas Works Park this summer; it will serve lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch.

Little Fish
Bryan Jarr and Zoi Antonitsas will still refer to their preserved seafood business in Pike Place Market’s upcoming expansion as Jarr and Co. But the actual restaurant where Antonitsas will serve dishes centered on all this smoked and tinned Northwest bounty will have a separate name: Little Fish is due late this summer.

Coffee Wire

Starbucks
Last week, Starbucks announced news of a forthcoming Roastery, the first of its kind in Europe, to open in 2018. While the first Starbucks store comes to Italy, specifically in Milan, where Howard Shultz originally dreamed up the coffee empire 34 years ago. This cafe will open this year, followed by a number of regular cafes throughout the region.

Sadness

Little Italy
Luigi Denunzio opened the bygone Al Boccalino in 1989, launching his love for growing this Little Italy community in Pioneer Square, adding at least four more restaurants to the historic neighborhood over decades. On March 6, Denunzio passed away at age 63, reports KING5 News.

Willowwood Farm
A Whidbey Island farm, from which many a Seattle restaurant sources its ingredients, has tragically lost an entire barn this week due to a large fire. A fourth generation farmer here has lost produce, equipment, seedlings, and more. To help this family farm recover visit their GoFundMe page to learn more and donate. Le Petit Cochon will also be hosting a benefit dinner on March 29 which will have five courses plus drinks for $120; call the restaurant for reservations.

Anniversaries

The BottleNeck Lounge
This neighborhood anchor is celebrating a decade of Kentucky Derby parties, Seahawk Sundays, political debate nights, and much more all weekend long. On March 10 get in on a bourbon-soaked happy hour from 4 to 8pm, featuring dog-themed cocktails—the Hair of the Dog drink menu to be exact—all at $10. While March 11 brings $3 cans of PBR tallboys, Bang Your Head Happy Hour, and a performance by the Buttrock Suite Dancers.
