In a five-part weekly animated YouTube series, famed rappers DJ Khaled and 2 Chainz are busy this holiday saving their beloved Timberland boots from their evil arch-nemesis, “Shoeface.” Within the epic series, the two rap superstars, aka “The Sole Protectors,” must put their superpowers to the test—but they can’t do it alone! They must enlist the “Dragon Kids” from far and wide to assist. The series, which began on November 16, is exclusive to Champs Sports and features the boots’ new colors, Dusty Rose and Blue Haze.
The two superstar rappers were chosen for the video due to their footwear prowess. Each has their own respective shoe lines. Khaled has his own Jordan brand shoe and is known for his incredible sneaker closet, of which he allows a very rare sneak peek. Bloggers have been after him for a long time, and he finally gave in to Complex and did an exclusive YouTube video showcasing his goods. Picture a walk-in closet with 12-foot walls of shoes, each with their own names like “Don’t Ever Play Yourself.” In the video, he pulls out favorites, like his OG Chrome 6s, Motorsport 5s, and cases full of Miami Heat editions, a gift from Reggie Jordan. Each one is tied to a personal part of his life; he remembers which he wore while making a certain song or video, or walking down a red carpet. He says he’ll pick a pair depending on where he’s headed—like in the studio with Jay Z. Does he have the best collection in the world? “Of course I do,” he says, though he acknowledges that his fans likely have some impressive kicks as well.
Meanwhile, the Grammy-award winning rapper 2 Chainz has signatures sneakers with Adidas, though he still gives props to Drake’s Air Jordan 10s. According to a Complex Sneaker Shopping series, in which Joe La Puma interviewed him in his Atlanta hometown, he waxes sentimental about Dr. J’s signature Converse, the pair he wore during his senior year of high school. This year, 2 Chainz teamed up again with Ewing Athletics to update the basketball player’s signature model, the Ewing 33 Hi, with an ostrich print.
Despite their differing sensibilities, both rappers share an affinity for the staple Timberland 6-inch in Dusty Rose and Haze Blue, an all-purpose waterproof boot with durable leather or nubuck uppers and a Gripstick lugged rubber outsole for enhanced traction. Inside, a leather-lined midsole gives a soft footbed while a padded collar adds support and comfort around the ankle. These iconic boots are meant to deliver optimal style, and these super-fly colors ensure they don’t look anything like a boring snow boot, even though they’ll stand up to even the nastiest weather.
