Members of CVS Pharmacy and Target celebrate the official unveiling of the first CVS

June 7, 2016, also included a $50,000 donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Earlier this week, CVS held an event announcing their new partnership with Target: namely that they will be having stores within the store. The 30 new locations are open throughout Washington, so if you’ve seen one in Target, now you know why. The expansion quadruples the presence of CVS pharmacies in the state from 7 to 37.

Held at the Target Northgate location, Senior Vice President for CVS Pharmacy, Hanley Wheeler, was on hand to discuss the pharmacy’s latest innovations with digital tools that will benefit Target shoppers, as well as their existing customer base. He also presented a sizable donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital; $50,000 to emphasize their commitment to increasing access to pediatric health care services. Peter Drury, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Seattle Children’s Hospital, was on hand to receive the donation.

CSA reports that all the Target-CVS pharmacies in Washington will provide the same services as the traditional stand-alone stores: “Maintenance Choice, a program that lets CVS Caremark plan members choose to fill 90-day supplies of medications for chronic conditions either through mail service or at any CVS Pharmacy location, is now available in all pharmacies in Target. Pharmacy Advisor, a program in which CVS Caremark plan members diagnosed with chronic conditions receive face-to-face counseling when they choose to fill prescriptions at CVS Pharmacy or by phone when they choose mail service pharmacy, will be available by the end of 2016. Specialty Connect, a feature of CVS Specialty which gives patients the option to pick up their specialty prescriptions at any CVS Pharmacy, will be available to patients as Target pharmacies convert to CVS Pharmacy.” While this means convenience for shoppers, local pharmacies and even big name competitors will definitely be feeling the pressure from this expansion.
