Mr pink rose bpzqpt

What: Underground Wine Project Mr. Pink Rosé of Sangiovese Columbia Valley 2015 $15

Where: Esquin and Spirits, McCarthy and Schiering (Queen Anne), Ballard Market, Leschi Market, Pete’s Wine Shop, QFC (Harvard Exit, Broadway, Ballard, Univ. Village and West Seattle).

Why: Rosés have become increasingly popular in the Northwest and around the country in recent years. As a result, there are more and more offerings coming out of Washington. Enter “Mr. Pink” from The Underground Wine Project.

The Underground Wine Project is a collaboration between winemakers Mark McNeilly (Mark Ryan Winery) and Trey Busch (Sleight of Hand Cellars, Renegade Wine Co.). Here the name Mr. Pink is a call out to the movie “Reservoir Dogs” where all of the characters in a bank heist are given colors as code names, and the man dubbed Mr. Pink protests, “Why I am Mr. Pink…Why can’t we pick our own colors?

Mr. Pink is all sangiovese. It’s a very pretty pale peach, with aromas of herb, cherry and mineral. The palate drinks dry with mouthwatering, generous tart cherry flavors. It’s a winner, especially for the value category.

While Mr. Pink’s name is not in question, with Trey Busch now making three delicious bottles of rosé for Sleight of Hand, Renegade Wine Co. and now Underground Wine Project, perhaps he should be called Mr. Rosé?
