Woodblock, a new restaurant in Redmond’s Old Town Lofts building focusing on Pacific Northwest seasonal ingredients and craft cocktails, opened softly this week for dinner and will hold its grand opening Friday, March 18
Owners Carolyn and Tony Scott say the menu changes based on what's fresh locally. Currently, Woodblock is serving a scotch egg topped with roasted red pepper and served alongside currant-grain mustard aioli. They have a plate of crispy, sustainably harvested calamari with chickpea puree, sun dried tomatoes and golden raisins, and a dish of roasted cauliflower with house bacon and a curry-carrot puree. There’s a rotating charcuterie board, heartier dishes like oxtail and butternut squash risotto, and of course, a burger, which, in Carolyn’s admittedly biased opinion, might be the best burger around.
The bar is stocked with local spirits, ready for use in craft cocktails, ranging from classics like a vesper, to a six-week barrel aged negroni and some Woodblock originals.
The Scotts, who met while both working at the Painted Table in Seattle, have talked about opening a restaurant for nearly 18 years. With timing and location finally right in their hometown, Redmond, they now have a final product, a process which Carolyn likens to "the birth of a child." The restaurant's name and menu are inspired by the couple's collection of woodblock art, which lines the walls. For the Scotts, the printing technique using layers of color to produce a final product is similar to how the kitchen layers flavors on the plate to produce a final, composed dish.
Located at 16175 Cleveland St in Redmond, Woodblock will likely begin lunch service within two weeks of the grand opening, if not before, and the team hopes to have their patio open by spring. The restaurant takes reservations, and you can see menus and other info on the Woodblock website.
