What: Latta Wines Latta Latta GSM Columbia Valley 2013 $30
Where: PCC, Metropolitan Market, McCarthy and Schiering, Tasting Room
Why: Exciting things are going on in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, where a new complex called SODO Urban Works is now home to a mixture of seven wineries, tasting rooms, and a wine retailer. Full Pull Wines (and their house label Block Wines), Kerloo Cellars, Latta Wines, Structure Cellars, Waters Winery and 21 Grams, Sleight of Hand Cellars, and Rotie Cellars are all located in the complex, giving the area a vibrant feel.
One of the wineries, Latta Wines, is a new project from Andrew Latta, who was formerly winemaker for Charles Smith Wines and K Vintners. His latest release, the 2013 Latta Wines Latta Latta GSM Columbia Valley ($30) is not only a knockout of a wine, it’s also an exceptional value given the quality that is in the bottle. A blend of grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre, it’s bursting with aromas of white pepper, plum, boysenberry and raspberry. The palate shows a lovely sense of texture that captivates the senses. It has several retail placements around town but if you want to get hip to the latest Seattle wine scene, head on down to their winery in SoDo to check it out.
