We're counting down the days (just a month!) until Uniqlo opens the doors at its Bellevue Collection store, the first ever in the area. And it seems we aren't the only ones who are excited. The brand teamed up with a handful of local celebs for a People Campaign with the idea that Uniqlo has something to offer just about everyone—from the 6'1", 209-pound Seahawks receiver Jermaine Kearse to our girl Hollis Wong-Wear of the Flavr Blue.
"To enter into a new market, you must celebrate and understand a local community," Uniqlo USA's chief merchandising officer and director of brand marketing Justin Kerr told us in an email. "We do this through unique partnerships, such as our partnership with the Seattle Seahawks where we are working with Kearse and his 15 to 1 Foundation, which focuses on youth from military families. Additionally our local people campaign will feature local influencers who have a true grasp on Seattle...including famous athletes, musicians, farmers, fashion bloggers, tech guys and more!"
In the coming weeks, we'll be showcasing our top picks for shopping the Japanese brand (can we start with this color-blocked lambswool sweater, please?). Hollis is wearing a cool $30 flannel check button-up. Kearse is in the Ultra Light Down Jacket, in Seahawks green obviously.
Kerr is also a fan. "My personal favorites include Ultra Light Down and HEATTECH," he says. "For our Ultra Light Down we have added a new water-resistant technology...which is perfect for whatever the Seattle weather throws at you. HEATTECH is a fabric technology that Uniqlo has developed. [It] is practically paper thin, but keeps you so warm during the winter months."
As for plans for a downtown Seattle opening in the future, Kerr never said never. "As of now we do not have plans to expand [into Seattle], but we are always looking for the perfect property to open," he said. "We are happy to wait until we can do it right."
