Meet Kate Retherford. When she's not busy with her communications career and finding the perfect cardigan, she is crafting outfits and encouraging body positivity on her blog, All Things Kate. Tracking her work out progress and her style, Retherford's blog reads less like a diary and more like an inspiring letter your best friend wrote.

Shop Talk: For background, where were you born and raised and where are you currently living?

Kate: I’m a local! I was born in Everett and grew up in Granite Falls. I even attended college in Tacoma. Now I reside in beautiful Snohomish, and live in an adorable historic home that was built in 1898

Your personal style in 3 words:
Flirty, feminine, and functional.

What do you do outside of blogging? Are you a full-time fashion blogger or is it a side profession?
Blogging is my creative outlet and my part-time hobby. In the day, I oversee social media for Frontier Communications, one of the nation’s largest communication providers.

Your blogging timeline: Is this your first? What, if anything, came before?
I launched All Things Kate in 2012 to build my personal and professional experience with blogging and social media. However, it quickly evolved into a place for me to showcase my personal style. All my life I had friends and family complimenting my style, and with my blog I felt inspired to share my fashionable talents.

How has style laid the bricks for the road to body positivity to you?
I’ve always loved dressing fashionably, but during and after college, I gained a lot of weight. I finally decided that no matter what my size, I was capable of looking and feeling fabulous in my own clothes. Climbing out of the chasm of band t-shirts and jeans, I started building up my wardrobe with beautiful dresses that twirl, colorful cardigans, bold accessories, and everything in between. In the last year, I’ve lost 70 pounds and it’s been another road of discovery for myself, and my style. However, the theme still remains the same: having style has nothing to do with your size, and has everything to do with your attitude.

What is some style advice you would give to a person who struggles to feel confident in their skin?
You are your biggest critic. No matter what size I’ve been, whether an 18 or an 8, I am the biggest inhibitor of my success. Confidence is an ongoing mental and emotional journey. Keep pushing forward, love yourself no matter your shape or size, and continue making positive strides in your own personal journey.

What's the hardest thing in terms of blogging about Seattle style?
Personally, finding time to blog is the hardest for me. There is so much I want to write about, but simply do not have enough hours in the day!

What's your ultimate wardrobe essential item?
A cardigan sweater. I own them in so many colors and I pretty much always have one with me.

Give other style bloggers a piece of your own advice.
Just do it! I think from time to time, whether new or seasoned bloggers, we get hung up on whether or not to post or say something that we’re passionate about. Take a deep breath and just dive right in.

What do you hope to see more of in Seattle's style future?
I really hope the blogging community continues to grow. I would like to see it evolve and include many different types of style bloggers of all shapes, sizes, and sexes.
