Terrorism, Propaganda, and U.S. Middle Eastern Policy

Al Jazeera's 2013 documentary series The Secret of the Seven Sisters taught us that the Middle East has been caught in a power struggle ever since oil was discovered. Terrorism, Propaganda, and U.S. Middle Eastern Policy features journalist David Barsamian.

He'll tackle historical factors shaping conflicts in Iraq, previous U.S. interventions, and Washington-backed regimes in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Egypt, focusing in on propaganda and policy-based justifications that conceal overseas motives. Learn what's really up in the Middle East, and how we can challenge the media status quo.

Terrorism, Propaganda, and U.S. Middle Eastern Policy, Wed, May 20, 7pm, Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

How to Stop Robots from Stealing Jobs

In China, businesses are now making up for the scarcity of workers by designing and installing robots—and according to Martin Ford, a leading expert on the "Robot Revolution," artificial intelligence is coming for us too.

If you didn't think a robot could ever replace a living, breathing person in the workplace, the development of features like emotional-processing software will probably make you think again. Ford identifies the most at-risk jobs, explains how robot workers could impact the economy on a massive scale, and outlines basic changes to education, health care, and societal infrastructure that could stop the impending robot takeover.
