OPENINGS

KuKuRuZa in Lynnwood
The gourmet popcorn chain is opening its fourth location at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood on Saturday, April 11. From 10am to 9pm, grab a free flight bag with any flavor of your choice from classics like caramel and cheddar mix to more adventurous flavors like kiwi grapefruit or honey Dijon.

It’s Bao Time
Seattle’s food truck scene just keeps getting better: Sean Jen, Taiwanese American chef and owner of It’s Bao Time food truck, is setting up camp in South Lake Union next to Amazon from 10am to 2pm on Mondays and Fridays. The menu is inspired by traditional Taiwanese night market fare; expect steamed buns stuffed with marinated proteins of your choice, pancake wraps, rice bowls, and experimental taro fries with sesame or sriracha mayo.

Chick-fil-A
Pushing all politics aside with the Georgia-based chicken sandwich joint, you can have your fix at the new (and first in the Seattle area) Bellevue location that opened yesterday. Expect two additional openings in Tacoma and Lynnwood in the upcoming weeks.

Wakefield Bar
Aspiring neighborhood lounge Wakefield opens next week next to Rendezvous in Belltown, according to Eater Seattle, seating 72 along rows of booths, a communal rail, and a sunny patio. Wakefield’s executive chef (and former sous chef at Marjorie) Thomas Dodd will focus on building a menu with shareable plates, along with reasonably priced cocktails, and six beers on tap. Weekend brunch might soon be in the works.

COMING SOON

Kraken Congee
The guys behind Pioneer Square's impending congee house sent word that doors will open April 20 in the former Little Uncle space.

Country Dough
Peripatetic but much-loved Szechuanese chef Cheng Biao Yang is opening his own spot in Pike Place Market. He will serve guo kui, a crisp pancake stuffed with meat or vegetables. More details on Nosh Pit

Hellbent Brewing Company
Lake City is clearly becoming a new hub for beer; first with Elliott Bay Brewing and now with Hellbent Brewing Company opening a cozy multistory space in May with a tasting room, a lounge, a pool table, television and more.

Ms. Helen’s Soul Food Bistro
A Seattle soul food institution is making a comeback in Seattle’s Central District neighborhood opening in October with mother-daughter duo Ms. Helen Coleman (longtime restaurateur since the '70s) along with daughter Jesdarnel Henton. Apart from satisfying our cravings for classic comfort food like corn bread, peach cobbler, and oxtail, Coleman and Henton hope that the restaurant will also restore the culture and solidarity they say has diminished in the neighborhood over the years.

Canal Market
Eater Seattle has a quick update on the quasi market-deli-grocery store that Volunteer Park Cafe owner Ericka Burke is opening in Portage Bay: Looks like it will open in May

CLOSING

Sutra
The owners of Wallingford’s vegetarian restaurant and yoga studio have decided to leave Seattle for Leavenworth; Sutra's last dinner service will be at the end of September. While it’s heartbreaking to see them go, co-owners Amber Tande and Colin Patterson still plan to host popup dinners and yoga workshops in Seattle after their move.

CROWDFUNDING

Seattle Kitty Kafe
On Valentine’s Day, cat cafe popups were all the rage in Seattle, and a glimpse into Seattle’s newest trend in coffee culture. Seattle Kitty Kafe is hoping to raise $40k via Kickstarter to open its U District location by September, with Seattle Meowtropolitan hoping to open this summer.
