While host Neil Patrick Harris takes on the 86th Annual Academy Awards, here are some viewing parties at which you can take on some special cocktails, walk your own red carpet (seriously), and generally feel all “Hollywood” for an evening.
This first-time Oscars viewing party host will literally be rolling out the red carpet, and the person with the most Oscar-worthy fashion statement upon it wins a $50 Bastille gift card. Plus there will be food specials, happy hour until 6pm, and old Hollywood-inspired cocktails like the Vesper, Blood and Sand, and Brown Derby for $10 each. It all goes down in the back bar at 4:30pm with red carpet coverage.
This Downtown spot with jazzy vibes is also showing the Oscars in the bar with full sound. Inspired by a few Best Picture nominees, Sazerac has created a pink, rum-based Grand Budapest Hotel cocktail as well as a rye whiskey Whiplash drink sans J. K. Simmons yelling a constant outflow of obscenities in your face.
Queen Anne’s seasoned party thrower will be presenting the award show on a big-ass screen with sound—so yay for hopefully more audience participation like this. There will be classic cocktail specials, truffle popcorn, and oysters Rockefeller. And a $50 gift certificate goes to the clairvoyant person who guesses the most winners. The Oscars broadcast starts at 5:30pm.
Whoa, there will be two screens at this Oscars gathering in Capitol Hill. Poco will have bubbly, popcorn, and bingo cards. And if you're not first, you're last: According to Poco,"Second to get a bingo is punished with Fireball."
One of Capitol Hill’s gluten-free spots is embracing the Oscars this Sunday offering movie-themed, pun-filled food and drink specials. Start the morning with a “Glam-ato” bloody mary at brunch that begins at the usual 10am. Then seating for the viewing party starts at 3:45 in Capitol Cider’s open downstairs area where bartenders will be—let’s just say—dressed up for the occasion. Other favorite specials include the Patricia Croquette, the Grand Waldorf Salad, and Inherent Fries.
