Bourbon and Bones
Bringing North Carolinian-style barbecue to the Northwest, Mike Law’s joint delivers on both the bourbon and the bones for happy hour. Choose your ‘bones’ from the glass case, or ‘heat merchandiser' as Law refers to it, which is full of fried chicken, smoked pulled pork shoulder, smoked brisket, sausages, bacon, bourbon-soaked livers, and sides; all of which is half price from 10pm 'til midnight for a food-only happy hour. As for bourbon, there’s plenty of it in the form of a Bones Sour, old fashioned, and Kentucky mule (all $8). Or wash down that southern BBQ with a pint of beer for $3; well drinks are $5. Drinks happy hour runs daily from 4–6pm.
Having opened in November of last year, this Northwest-Korean spot with dim sum-style service has installed a happy hour Sunday through Thursday 5–6:30pm and late night, 9–10pm. Choose any item that might pass by your table on trays, such as smoked trout mousse with nori potato chips...for 50 percent off. The beer of the day is $3, $5 gets you red, white, or sparkling wine, and craft cocktails are $7.
Home to what is believed to be the first microbrewed pale ale in the Pacific Northwest, this Seattle brewery offers a happy hour made for beer enthusiasts. During happy hour, choose from around 10 house drafts to fill a 20-ounce glass for the price of a 16-ounce. Or, if you have a proclivity for exclusivity, try some limited beers available at this location only: Anniversary Double Pale Ale (in honor of 30 years of local brewing), Halestorm Double IPA, and Icebreaker Black Ale (prices vary). To eat, the usual pub fare of pizza, burgers, and wings ($6 each). Head in Mon-Fri 3–6pm, and late night: Sun-Thu 9–10pm and Fri-Sat 10–11pm.
El Borracho del Norte
With a neon sign of a skeleton dancing over fire and a name that means “the drunk of the north”, welcome to the Simpson-esque take on Mexican happy hour: a leisurely 4–7pm Mon-Fri, and late night 11pm–1am seven days a week. Chips and salsa for a buck and chips and guacamole are only $2. Wells, cocktails, and some drafts are $4, but the stars of this happy hour are the tacos ($1-$2 each) and margaritas ($1 off, or $4 for “El Cheapo” margarita).
The Leary Traveler
Understanding that schlepping between Ballard and Fremont requires a bit of a charging station, this pub offers a respectable happy hour menu. A lot of fries options: poutine with housemade cheese curds ($6), yam fries ($5), and frites ($4). And there’s duck liver mousse pate with port wine, grain mustard, and toast to luxuriously refuel ($6). To drink: draft beers at $2 off, wells are $3 off, and house red and white wines are just $4. Happy hour offered Mon-Fri 4–6pm.
