Each week between now and Labor Day, we present a new or unsung patio for your alfresco imbibing needs.

A bastion of peace and sangria.

The circular drive in the Sorrento Hotel courtyard has been taken over by cafe tables and orange umbrellas and strings of white lights. The venerable hotel at Madison and Terry has reinstated this European-style patio after a few years' hiatus, moving valet parking up to the curb for the duration of the summer.

The setup is known as the grand piazza, and the Hunt Club will serve lunch, dinner and happy hour here through Labor Day. In July, the Sorrento will add live music to the mix during Thursday and Friday happy hours.

Fifty seats means there's a chance you might actually get to sit in one on a sunny day. The walls and hedges surrounding the piazza buffer the space from the madness of First Hill, where great patios are in short supply. All this, plus actual live palm trees.
