Tom Douglas's cooking school in the Hotel Andra is a few weeks away from holding its first sessions. The august institution, known as the Hot Stove Society, released its first roster of classes recently.
Prices range from a $50 (a knife skills session with Hot Stove director Bridget Charters, or a tequila and mezcal session with Douglas's beverage director Adam Chumas) to a $175 dinner with T-Doug himself, an ode to dearly departed Czech restaurant Labuznik.
Tom Douglas Restaurants pastry chef Stacy Fortner will teach students how to make Douglas's famed coconut cream pie, and cutlery rock star Bob Kramer will do a session on knife maintenance. I would gladly drop $150 to watch Douglas and Eric Tanaka do the Iron Chef–style salmon battle.
In the name of public service, each class listing clearly denotes whether the session will be full-on boozy, or include just a single glass of wine or beer. Douglas told me the school will have a bar area for additional drinks...presumably after everyone is done handling knives.
