Wherein we ask local wine notables to make our weeknight drinking decisions for us.

Jason Marvin has “never known a life without wine.” With wine always at the dinner table, Marvin grew up fascinated by it. When he moved to Seattle, Marvin worked with Noble Wines for three years, before moving on to manage the institution that is Pike and Western Wine Shop.

Eleven years later, Marvin is still managing the shop and doling out wine advice to those of us who need it.

So Jason, what should I drink tonight?

The Chinook 2011 Cabernet Franc. New world wine, old world charm—thank you Chinook! After I tasted this wine I felt compelled to email Chinook winery and thank them. So I did.

This vintage is so bright, so fresh and delicious, I just had to share my enthusiasm with the winemaker and now you the consumer. Perfectly medium weight, brambleberry fruits, dusty, leafy, franc-y aromas and flavors, 13 percent alcohol—this is near perfect wine for my tastes. I can drink it on its own, or have it with pork chops, roast chicken, even salmon. Either way, happiness abounds when I drink this wine.

Find It: City Cellars, Fremont PCC, Pike and Western Wine Shop

The Price: $23–$25
