Hannukah Happenings at Golden Beetle
It’s not all Christmas hams and fruitcake scares this holiday season. Now through Dec 24, Maria Hines's Ballard restaurant is serving up some classic Hannukah specials like spot-on potato latkes with housemade applesauce, crème fraiche, and green onion; matzo ball soup with smoked chicken, carrot, and parsley; and stuffed donuts with persimmon filling topped with powdered sugar.

Two Years, Two Dollar Food and Drink at Agrodolce
Maria Hines is an especially busy woman this time of year. Her Sicilan restaurant in Fremont is celebrating its second birthday with Southern Italian dishes and cocktails for only $2. Toast with a no-nonsense Campari and soda, or a Salvatore Sling: Averna, house green almond liqueur, orange bitters, soda, and tarragon. Among the $2 food choices are: mini lamb burgers, polenta fries, or a scoop of pistachio gelato. This $2 menu starts Friday and goes thru Sunday.
December Birthdays Continue at Oddfellows Cafe and Bar
Embracing the holiday spirit, Linda Derschang's lovely establishment will be passing out cookies all day, kind of like a Santa Claus but for birthdays. And speaking of dear ol’ St. Nick, there will also be a photo op with him in the secret back patio from 3–5pm. Polaroids will be provided as well as a full-on winter wonderland background.

Ugly Sweaters at RockCreek
Hopefully you haven’t donated your bedazzled knit finery to Goodwill just yet; this marathon Christmas ugly sweater party happens from 9am until midnight, aka from brunch service through dinner, dessert, and postprandial drinks....like maybe RockCreek's housemade eggnog fashioned with tequila and sherry.
Brunch at Hommage
The Restaurant Formerly Known as Book Bindery is rolling out a one-day-only brunch service in honor of the impending holiday. Served as a prix fixe family-style meal, brunch will consist of: potage with leek oil, croque-monsieur with green salad, crepe with a seasonal jam, and smoked salmon served with poached egg and hollandaise. 11–1pm, $30 per person.
