If you're anything like me, you wait with bated breath each year for a New Jersey–based color company to clue you into the newest and most trendy hue of the year. Okay, so perhaps your anticipation is a little less dramatic, but whatever your excitement level, we are pleased to share that Pantone has dubbed Marsala the Color of the Year for 2015.
Marsala (or 18-1438) is based on the earthy red color of marsala wine, a fortified spirit with origins in Sicily. The drink is similar to sherry or port, but it hasn't hit the American beverage trend lists just yet (it's primarily a cooking wine here, as in chicken marsala).
That being said, it is a fine shade to embrace for your decorating and styling needs. Pantone describes it as "robust and earthy," but you can think of it as a watered-down burgundy. Click through our slide show below for seven ways to color your world in marsala, and wave goodbye to radiant orchid.
