Two bars, four shuffleboards, 23 flatscreen tvs, a pizza cam, burgers, pretzels, beer...do we have your attention? Good. The nearly 10,000-square-foot collaborative brainchild of the owners of Cactus and the owners of Poquitos, Stoneburner, and Bastille has opened in Bellevue Square...and it’s a doozy. While the menu leans towards meat-heavy bar food, there are plenty of veggie-friendly options like the roasted kabocha squash, roasted beet salad and black bean burger.
The Seattle-based coffee shop with locations in Pioneer Square and Portland’s Pearl District, has opened a third cafe on Ballard Ave. Pastries are from Le Panier and Macrina and lunch fare is from next door’s Italian restaurant, Volterra.
After the Georgetown institution shut its doors in early August it was quickly bought by Stephanie Kang, owner of Kimchi Amigos in Bellevue. According to The Stranger, Kang simply “could not let the legend go down in history.” Kudos to Kang for reviving the Mt. Fuji burger, nori fries, and grean tea milkshakes.
After departing Book Bindery earlier this year, Shaun McCrain has shared some details about his plans to open his own restaurant, which will be known as Copine. While there is no location yet, McCrain is envisioning a “higher-end daytime takeaway concept” alongside a high-end dinner service. An architect, landscape architect and bar manager have already been hired on for the (fingers crossed) 2015 opening.
Bill the Butcher
Wallyhood was the first to break the news about the temporary closing of all Bill the Butcher locations. The company has had financial issues for some time now, so this wasn’t a huge surprise. As of now there is no word on when or if the shops will reopen.

VPOTUS at Assagio
Joe Biden joined his niece for dinner at Assagio Ristorante in Belltown on Wednesday night according to KING 5. He was in town to speak to Renton Technical College on Thursday and to meet with senator Maria Cantwell. He apparently had pasta puttanesca. Sadly he didn't take any photos as great as this one from his visit to Salt and Straw in Portland.
Al Pacino at Il Terazzo Carmine
Seattle was graced with Italian royalty (kind of) on Wednesday when Al Pacino ate at the most storied Italian restaurants in town. What did he eat, you ask? According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, it was eggplant parmesan and he said it reminded him of the eggplant parmesan his Neapolitan grandmother used to make. Il Terrazo Carmine turns 30 this month; what an appropriate gift for its anniversary.
AWARDS & ACCOLADES
The bar won big when the World's 50 Best Bars were announced in London on Thursday. No other bar in Seattle has ever made the list, until yesterday. If Capitol Hillers didn't flock to the bar before they will now, for those Yakima Cartels and Shrouded Roulettes, that is.
Grim's Provisions and Spirits
Capitol Hill power trio Jason Lajeunesse, David Meinert and Joey Burgess has acquired Grim's from Laura Olson's Pterodactyl Group. We're talking downstairs bar Grim's, the Butterfly Lounge upstairs, and thumpy nightclub the Woods on the third floor. No changes have been announced, the plan is to continue running the bar as it is now with the same staff.
