Our longstanding gluten-free pastry desires have been answered with an opening date: October 10. The Capitol Hill bakery will sell focaccia, quiches, scones, cookies, brownies, bars, cakes, and still more. Gluten intolerants rejoice.
The owners of Hazelwood and Ocho are apparently opening a new bar together in the former Azteca space that's a sort of halfway point between the two Ballard bars. According to The Stranger, there will be a nautical theme and Ocho’s Zach Harjo will oversee the menu, and the bar will open sometime in October.
Violet Sweet Shoppe
The vegan bakery near University Village is opening a new location in Phinney Ridge. Phinneywood reported that the new shop does not have a kitchen, so it will specialize in candy and chocolate bars, but will still offer some cookies from its U District bakery. It's set to open the first week of October.
Moctezuma’s Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar
Westfield Southcenter Mall will be adding Mexican fare to its restaurant lineup this winter. Moctezuma’s menu at its other locations offers 11 different tacos, classic enchiladas, and fajitas, not to mention a tempting Margarita Monday which features half price Clasico Margaritas. Fingers crossed that a similar lineup is available for the Tukwila location’s opening in December.
Nate’s Wings and Waffles
Darren McGill and Nate Robinson’s sports-themed den of comfort food has finally opened in Rainier Beach. The menu really is all about the chicken with chicken wings, strips, and a chicken waffle slider, but there is a beef slider for the red meat-inclined.
Couched within the news that Sugar Mountain is moving its headquarters to South Lake Union, the Daily Journal of Commerce has an update on Max's, the two-story smoked meat restaurant also planned for the space at 2121 Westlake Ave. Max's will do roadhouse-style barbecue upstairs, and a steakhouse setup n the lower level. Sounds like the planned Sugar Mountain Bakery will land elsewhere.
Tini Bigs Brunch
Starting October 5 the Lower Queen Anne lounge will serve brunch every Sunday from 10am–3pm. There's talk of braised short rib hash, strawberry cream cheese stuffed french toast, and $5 mimosas and bloody marys.
