For Today
21 Acres: Pick and Prepare
Each class in the Pick and Prepare course on farm-to-table dining begins with a lesson and ends with food preparation. The first class in certified organic farm 21 Acres' three-week course defines sustainable farming techniques and adds a roasted summer salad into your dinner-making repertoire.
Classes two and three take place September 3 & 10; expect discussions of factory farming and menus with seasonal soup and preserves.
21 Acres: Pick and Prepare, Wed, Aug 27, 6:30–8:30pm, 21 Acres, 13701 NE 171st St, Woodinville, $50–$60
Last Day for Park(ing) Day Registration
The one-day-only event isn’t until September 19, but today is the last day to register. In order to raise awareness of a walkable and livable city, SDOT is asking citizens to draw up a plan for a park that will fit into two parking spaces on an arterial street or one spot on a residential street. There aren't very many rules beyond that besides a few height restrictions.
Check out a sketch of PubliCola's Josh Feit's plan in yesterday's Morning Fizz for a little inspiration and get to planning your own parklet today.
Last Day for Park(ing) Day Registration, Fri, Aug 29, free
The president and CEO of Buffalo Olmsted Conservatory will share the success of Buffalo, New York’s park restoration and discuss how Seattle can benefit from the city's revival. The Olmsted brothers also created Seattle’s park system over 100 years ago, but their model has deteriorated over time.
The lecture follows a screening of The Best Planned City in the World, a movie on the creation of Buffalo’s park system.
The Revitalization of Olmsted Parks, Mon, Sept 8, 6:30–9pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $8-$10
