Veggie Grill: Downtown
Office denizens looking for a fast, healthy lunch need look no further than Fourth and Pine. Veggie Grill, a fast-casual "plant-based" (aka vegan) eatery, opened its third Seattle location on Wednesday in the Joshua Green Building. Ardent Veggie Grill fans (there are many of them, including plenty of carnivores) especially like the All Hail Kale salad, crispy "crab" cakes, and the faux buffalo chicken sandwich.
Martino’s Smoked Meats
Last month we gave you five reasons to get excited about Martino’s Smoked Meats, and now you can check it for yourself. The former vegan shoe shop–turned–meatery (awkward) at 7410 Greenwood Ave N is open as of Tuesday. Check out its simple menu of sandwiches, salads, and sides from 11 to 9 Tuesday through Sunday.
The doughnut chainlet's 15th location has just opened on First Hill, according to Eater Seattle. It’ll be open from 6 to 6 daily, serving up old favorites (who can resist a maple bar?) and seasonal offerings (pumpkin old fashioned, anyone?).
Bad Albert’s Tap and Grill is back to life. The spot that housed Tailgaters since January is known by its former name once again, and has even reinstalled its former staff, says My Ballard. According to co-owner Cory Rockey, most everything is back to the way it was before it closed last summer.
The longstanding Linda Derschang-founded bar on E Pine has announced that it will close after 17 years in business, according to Capitol Hill Seattle. The club will shutter its doors this Saturday.
One of Ballard’s beloved neighborhood bars has officially reopened under new ownership, according to My Ballard. New owners Darren and Liz Miller purchased the Stepping Stone back in July, choosing to keep the name but change several aspects of the bar, including brightening up the place and starting a small plate menu. Stop in between noon and 2am Monday through Saturday, or from noon to midnight on Sundays.
Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort
This Leavenworth resort just hired Joshua Holmes as its new executive chef. Formerly of historic Greenbrier in West Virginia and with 15 years of culinary experience, Holmes sounds like an apt replacement for former executive chef Ken MacDonald.
Sunday Brunch at Von Trapp's
Brunch in a bier hall? Von Trapp’s is all over it. This fall marks the launch of Sunday brunch, where you can fawn over an eclectic mix of breakfast favorites, like pork schnitzel, bratwurst and mushrooms, and chicken and waffles. It all starts at 10am each Sunday and will probably earn you an early crack at a bocce court or at least a prime football viewing spot.
Storyville Coffee Company
Queen Anne View has word that after nearly two years of sitting unoccupied, the old Teacup space on Queen Anne Ave is finally getting a new resident. Bainbridge-based Storyville Coffee Company is focusing on its Seattle presence, first by opening a retail coffee bar in Pike Place Market on October 1 and then coming to Queen Anne. Stay tuned for an opening date.
Eater National did a really nice Q&A with Renee Erickson and business partner Jeremy Price. Yep, they talked a lot about the success of their wildly popular oyster bar the Walrus and the Carpenter, but dropped the intruiging note that the highly anticipated adjacent bar might open as soon as next week. As we mentioned earlier this week, the infamous Chick-fil-A establishment has started to take preliminary steps toward opening a Seattle location. With a noted proclivity for controversy (it has been known for donating millions of dollars to anti-gay groups), it will be interesting to see how the Georgia-based chain will be received in the 206. With locations already in the works in Tacoma and Lynnwood, the chain has its sights set on the Northgate neighborhood next, where it has already filed a permit application.
In case you haven't noticed, Joshua Henderson wastes no time. Having opened Westward and Little Gull just last week, he has revealed yet another project in the works—it’s called Parchment, and it will be a “a hearth and oven-centric bread/pastry and beer boutique in SoDo,” according to Eater Seattle. He plans to team up with Laura Pyles, pastry chef of acclaimed restaurants Revel and Joule. Expect this “lunch spot with some breakfast items” to open early next year.
