It's like the ice cream fates just knew this week would be hot and sunny. Back in June, Ben and Jerry's announced a public voting campaign to create a Seattle flavor. It was sort of a choose-your-own-adventure thing: Chocolate or vanilla? Caffe Vita or marshmallows? Cookies or pretzel chunks? Some of it made sense, some of it didn't, but the final flavor debuts today, September 13.
It won't be in pints. Actually it won't be available at all after this weekend. If you want to try it, make your way to Theo Chocolate's quarters at 3400 Phinney Ave in Fremont between 5 and 7pm. There you'll find a "popup party," a Ben and Jerry's truck, and Jerry himself dispensing scoops of the vanilla-Theo chocolate-Caffe Vita-caramel-brownie-batter mashup. The name will be announced at today's event; I'm hoping for either Seattle Freeze or Mercer Mess.
There's also a community event on Saturday; help rebuild Third Avenue's Morrison homeless shelter from 10 to 1 and tastes the elusive Seattle flavor shall be yours, plus a free brown-bag lunch. Here are signup details for both events.
