Kickin’ Boot takes over the historic Henry Gowan Whyte warehouse.

Word from the Kickin' Boot camp is the Ballard restaurant opens this Thursday, August 16--the latest in a string of southern-leaning destinations for the neighborhood.

Zak Melang and Nate Opper of Matador are the guys behind Boot. The duo embarked on some extensive renovations of the 4,700-square-foot space at Shilshole Boulevard and 22nd Avenue NW. Perks of the place include a patio overlooking Salmon Bay and a handsome, horseshoe-shaped bar that will tender a mindblowing amount of dark liquor. The chandeliers are pretty cool too.

In the kitchen is Bo Maisano, a name that likely resonates with noodle lovers. Several months ago he helmed those Bo Ramen pop-ups that garnered plenty of chatter. But now he's forgoing broth for barbecue and other southern comforts that, as a native New Orleanian, he knows quite well.

Hours are 11am-2am daily.
