This month is all about counters: a cheesesteak counter, a candy counter, Seattle Center counter, and it’s a safe bet that Wandering Goose will have a formidable counter of baked goods. Here are five impending openings to brighten up a gloomy June.
Philly Boys Cheesesteak Counter
SoDo’s new stationary destination for cheesesteaks opens some time around June 20; finding it shouldn’t be a problem since owner John Schofield is painting his walkup the same Cheez Whiz color as the Philly Boys food truck that started it all. The space beyond the counter (located at 3201 Fourth Ave S) is about to become a 24/7 production space for bakers, caterers and food truckers around the city.
Skillet at the Armory
This month brings a major milestone in Seattle Center’s transformation into a place where you actually want to go and eat: Skillet opens its grab-and-go counter this month, serving up some of the greatest hits (burgers, poutine, fried chicken sandwiches) from the much-loved truck and diner.
Okay, it’s not technically a restaurant, but My Ballard recently reported that this vintagey-looking candy store will open on NW 57th St, near Ballard Public Library June 9. Color us intrigued.
The Wandering Goose
Heather Earnhardt is predicting a late June open for her 15th Avenue destination for homey baked goods and Southern-style breakfast and lunch. Per usual, this plan is subject to the delay-causing surprises inherent in any opening process (see: Vessel).
