Break out the beads and the bottles of bourbon: It’s Fat Tuesday—Mardi Gras in French—and for Catholics, the last chance to stuff their faces before 40 days of Lenten restraint. The party started this weekend in New Orleans—and at the Venice Is Sinking masked carnival ball at Seattle Design Center (view the slideshow by Lucas Anderson for party shots, aerialists, burlesque, and some mind-blowing costumes).

For today’s final day of celebration, Toulouse Petit will throw a big party with live music (and a DJ at 10pm), and serve its usual assortment of beignets, plump Louisiana shrimp, and other French Quarter favorites. They’re also offering a Dine Around Seattle menu (three courses for $30).

Tidbit Bistro has a three-for-$30 deal too, with traditional Carnival desserts (puff pastry strips, mmm).

And for the first time in 10 years—since the riot in Pioneer Square turned Fat Tuesday to Black Tuesday—the neighborhood will host multi-club events, according to KIRO.
