France’s Brodinski keeps an eye on the beats at the Decibel Festival.

THEATER
The 39 Steps epitomizes Alfred Hitchcock’s innocent-wisecracker-on-the-run larks. It’s been a hit on Broadway in a spoofy homage that uses four actors to play all the parts. Fast, funny stuff, it starts previews this weekend here at the Rep.

SketchFest, which began on Monday, continues to offer multiple sources of laughter.

Dance, comedy, theater—there’s a different double-bill of fringe frolics each weekend of The Suitcase Festival at Annex Theatre.

CLASSICAL & MORE
Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos sets off Duo Piano Fireworks under the fingers of guests Jon Kimura Parker and Orli Shaham at Seattle Symphony.

DANCE
I don’t want to contradict everyone raving about how lovely Roméo et Juliette is at Pacific Northwest Ballet—it’s divine, alright—but, more importantly, the piece is hot. This isn’t a sticky-sweet story ballet; we’re watching ecstatic young lovers. Romeo told us all about it.

CONCERTS
One of Seattle music’s hottest young voices helps kick off the Shake the Shack Rockabilly Ball, which KEXP presents through Saturday at the Tractor.

VISUAL ART
With their remastered albums on media blitz, we haven’t heard the last of the Beatles. No surprise we get to see this weekend that John Lennon had a way with more than words.

The parent/child relationship receives video, photography, and installation expression at Western Bridge for Parenthesis, which includes work from national names as well as stellar Seattleites such as Jennifer Zeyl, best known as a scenic designer for lauded local theater troupes, and photographer Alice Wheeler.

BOOKS & TALKS
Tess Gallagher, who caused a controversy as widow of Raymond Carver, is on quieter ground reading personal stories with Holly Hughes and others on Bainbridge Island on Sunday.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Grab fast at the Friends of the Seattle Public Library Book Sale this weekend. Consumer competition is fierce. I’m not kidding.

Fans of all things digital and deejay should flock to the Decibel Festival, which begins on Thursday with artists from all over the world and runs throughout the weekend at venues ranging from Chop Suey to the Seattle Art Museum.
