Plus: a farewell to Jimgermanbar and a lounge overhaul at Canlis.

Two Doors Down

On Wednesday, Erin Nestor opened her new bar Two Doors Down, just...two doors down from her popular Bottleneck Lounge. Nestor says her new spot is kid friendly but also a hangout for her adult bar regulars. Half of the local beer and cider lineup are produced within city limits,, and the lineup of burgers includes a tricked out “420 Burger.”

Sugar Plum
Vegan doyenne Makini Howell opened her plant-based sweet shop on 15th Avenue earlier this week, but is still working out the plans for an official grand opening next month, reports Eater Seattle. Meanwhile, Sugar Plum posted some photos of its lineup of vegan cupcakes, bars, and other treats on the Plum Restaurants Facebook page


A Barrio Sibling in Leschi 
The company behind places like Barrio and Purple, is  planning a new restaurant on Leschi's lakeside main drag. Details are scarce–it doesn’t have a name yet–but it aims to be a “neighborhood cafe” serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Crush's last night of service is today, August 28. Owner Jason Wilson says his forthcoming new restaurant will be on the Eastside. Meanwhile Crush's home in Madison Valley will become a culinary lab for the fast-growing Coffee Flour enterprise.


At the end of this month, Jimgermanbar, known to its many fans on both sides of the state as the best little bar in Waitsburg, will close. But there is some good news to come from this. Owner Jim German will collaborate with Mike Easton of Seattle's Il Corvo and Pizzeria Gabbiano on opening a new restaurant in Walla Walla next year. 


Italian Family Pizza 
The downtown pizzeria has secured a new location at Exchange Place on First and Marion, says the Seattle Times. Owner Steve Calozzi had been searching for a new space for months after learning the current site at First and Seneca is being leveled within the next year. Expect a new edition of the restaurant by next spring.


The Seattle Times reports that Canlis will overhaul its lounge this winter, making it a little bigger–large enough to accommodate a second bartender. Local architect George Suyama will lead the project.


“Big John” Croce
This week, “Big John” Croce passed away. Croce is the founder of Big John’s PFI, the no-frills import shop beloved by food cognoscenti.  


The Lodge Expands to Capitol Hill
The owners of The Lodge Sports Grille are opening a new restaurant in the old Charlie’s space by the end of the year. The owners said that the new location will be a new restaurant, not simply a new Lodge location.
