More Sounders FC Season Tickets Available Today

But why are those seats available? (Hint: the band got booted)

May 6, 2009

If you’re kicking yourself for not buying season tickets to the Sounders FC inaugural MLS campaign, you’ve got another chance. The club is making about 50 seats in the general admission section in the south end of Qwest Field available this afternoon, for $208, which covers the last 13 home games of the season. Prost Amerika has the full story. Sounders FC pandemonium being what it is — and considering the fact that the club has sold more season tickets than any other team in the league this year — the ticket office is no doubt bracing for a crash of calls this afternoon. (The number, by the way, is 1-877-MLS-GOAL.)

But for my money, the real story here is why those 50 seats opened up. It seems the front office finally caved to the demands of the supporter groups that sit in the south end of Qwest to move the Sound Wave band to the north end of the stadium. Seating the band in the south end has been a problem from the start, because the supporter groups, including the Emerald City Supporters, have argued that the brass-and-drum bonanza drowns out their chants. (Some of their more extreme members have complained that the band represents the antithesis of supporter culture and hate that it exists at all.) I’m still trying to get reaction from the band and the North End Supporters, who will apparently be sharing space with the band as early as this weekend, when the L.A. Galaxy come to town. I’ll update as soon as I hear something.
