Yves St. Laurent's former long-term head designer Stefano Pilati was just appointed head of design for menswear at Italian-brand Ermenegildo Zegna, as well as creative director for their little-known womenswear line Agnona.
Downtown's Butch Blum has a long relationship with the Zenga line—they currently carry pieces from Z Zegna and Zegna Sport. Co-owner Kay Smith-Blum is confident in the Pilati appointment, saying, "I think he'll do a very good job. The sensibility he showed in YSL's men's collections will translate beautifully to the Zegna client."
We asked if Butch Blum would be carrying the women's line, to which Smith replied, "They have a women's line?" Her surprise isn't unexpected considering Agnona accounts for only a fraction of the company's profits and isn't even featured on their website. It looks as if Pilati will have the big job of turning that all around, possibly starting with a cruise collection next year.
Pilati will take the reins in January 2013 and his designs are rumored to appear in June.
